Bladderwort, (genus Utricularia), genus of carnivorous plants in the family Lentibulariaceae (order Lamiales).
Utricularia has over 220 species, and can be found almost anywhere with fresh water. There are native species in almost all areas on Earth. Unlike most carnivorous plants, which capture prey above the surface, utricularia have hollow underwater structures ("bladders") that suck insect larvae, aquatic worms, and water fleas inside to be digested when they get too close to the bladder traps. Most species are terrestrial in waterlogged soil, while others are completely aquatic. Utricularia do not have a root system. Their traps are largely considered one of the most complex strucutres in the plant kingdom.
The flowers are bisexual, include colours such as white, blue, purple, and yellow, and produce many seeds when pollinated.
